CNC Okuma Set -Up / Programmer

*This position operates on a 4-day / 10-hour shift (Monday – Thursday). Fridays off!

The OKUMA CNC Set-Up/ Programmer produces parts from metal using an OKUMA Genos L3000-e Machine which is a 5-axis computer numeric controlled (CNC) piece of equipment that creates precision shapes and/or punches and customizes metal into a variety of forms for the manufacturing process. The Programmer must be able to read and understand detailed blueprints to form finished product. OKUMA Programmer must make sure the machines are set up properly, adjust the machine to control speed, material feed, path of the shape and produce quality parts.

The Programmer is responsible for changing the tooling per the print requirements and ensuring all tooling performs periodic quality inspection checks on the product output and visually inspect the finished product to ensure it is defect-free and ready for the next step in the production process. They are also responsible for making sure the machines are working properly by conducting pre-work inspections, working at full capacity, and well maintained – performs preventative maintenance per machine recommendations. Must stock needed materials for production schedule and utilize production time efficiently for best production results.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Produce parts according to print specifications and scheduling requirements.
  • Must be cognizant of how different materials react to pressure, heat and shaping procedures.
  • Inspect the materials produced for quality and conformance prior to the release to the end-users, correct any inconsistencies or reject for non-conformance.
  • Keep machinery and work area clean and orderly.
  • Operates an OKUMA Machine under minimal supervision for 8 to 10 hours per day using standard tool for punches, slots, tabs, etc., to produce quality parts.
  • Inspects tooling to ensure
  • Sets up machine by changing tooling, adjusts components per blueprint instructions.
  • Work with tight tolerances, checks height, depth and thickness using micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, gauges, and other precision-measuring instruments.
  • Performs parts inspections to ensure quality standards are met or exceeded.
  • Perform complex programming using all features of the OKUMA Machine which may include using a CNC controller to input information into machine to product new parts meeting specifications.
  • Meet customer specifications and delivery requirements.
  • Perform all required routine and minor maintenance activities according to procedures.
  • Complete and maintain paperwork.
  • Check machine for defects and repair if necessary.
  • Ensure machine is calibrated and cleaned.
  • Read drawings and blueprints.
  • Math Skills: Good math skills will help operators understand complex instructions, how schematics work and make sure items are designed and built correctly.
  • Problem Solving Skills: Programmers will need to know why machines are not at peak performance, how to increase output and how to fix errors.
  • Attention to Detail: The OKUMA is a precision machine. Being off by millimeters could be a critical error. Keen attention to detail is required.
  • Mechanical and Technical Skills: Machines controlled by computers will need operators who understand CNC/CAD/CAM technology.
  • Stamina: Operators often work long hours doing repetitive movements.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Lift, carry, push and or pull 1 – 50 lbs. frequently.
  • Squat/kneel, bend/stoop, twist/turn, grasp and reach overhead and outward frequently.
  • Sit, stand, and walk for 1 – 8 hours per day.
